Well as you can see the new site is now up and seems to be running. I need to get feedback from users on what they think of the site layout (design, color, usability) and what may need to change like layout, colors, font sizes, issues with different browsers, etc.
The new site is still similar to the old just rage. You submit rages and post comments. Anonymous posting is still available for both stories and comments. But there are a crazy new updates with a number of them only available to logged in users. The new system is a “digg clone” which is just a simple way of saying it is similar to the website dig.
All old accounts will require you to request your password! You can do this from the sign in page.
Some of the new features are:
User moderation of rages and comments.
New rages will now show up instantly on the site but not on the main page. New rages show up in the Newest Rages section. Site visitors will need to rate the different rages before these will show up on the main site or in categories. Currently the number of positive votes is set to 10 but this may go up or down depending on how well it works. So now everyone who visits the site can get as involved (or uninvolved) as they want to.
Voting and Karma.
All stories and comments are controlled by votes and karma. Stories will not show up on the main page without a specific number of votes, and comments will “disappear” when a number of negative votes are used. This will help to keep spam low and rages interesting. Your Karma depends on several factors and is what is used to determine how many votes are required for something to be “hidden” from everyone else. The more you post and the more positive votes you get from others will control if your karma goes up or down. Basically what this means is the better shit you post to the site and the more you help out the better “rating” you get with the site and the louder the voice you have so to speak when it comes to justrage.
Groups.
Users can note create or join groups. Groups are basically a way for users to share rages with one another and form clicks. An example would be creating a justrage trolls group. You invite the people you like on justrage (or all your alts) to join the group, or you can make the group public so anyone can join. You can then add rages to the group for everyone else too view, read, comment etc.
Better user profiles / user accounts.
The user profiles are just better in most ways. You can view all the stories you posted, voted on, commented, submitted, add friends and also includes a private messaging system to message people on justrage (though you have to be friends first with them).
Things that are on the list of things to do:
Various style / layout changes.
wysiwyg editor for posting stories, and maybe comments.
AJAX story/page sorting (fewer page loads).
Fix Captcha.
Disable footer ribbon by user (might just wait a few weeks and delete it).
Comment indenting. Currently they are flat and I want the ability to see which comment was to a specific comment.
Sprite images thoughout the site (no not those sprites, its a CSS thing for speeding up sites).
modal windows for login, register, and a few other things (less page loads, faster to login, etc).
Users online.
Total stories listing.
Total comments per story.
Various SQL optimizations to speed up the site.
