Anonymous raged 2 years ago —— Am I the only college student I know who is not going for some lame-ass fucking art degree? They're fucking useless in real life and 99% of art students are either pretentious hipster fucks or too goddamn lazy to get a real education. If the terrorists win and come here and start bombing, I hope they take out the coffee shops first. And these stupid-ass art students and their bullshit art degrees.

Art degrees are only useless because society says so. Do you want to live in a world without Picasso or Shakespeare? No? Than shut the fuck up!!! You have no idea how much artists sacrifice for the pretentiousness of their art, and by the way, getting an art degree is not nearly as hipster dufus as it might seem to an untrained lab rat like you. SO shut the fuck up, lamer. What are you studying? Engineering? HA!!! That's taking the easy way out.

No, genius. I'm studying law. And Shakespeare didn't get one of these lame-ass art degrees. Shakespeare never even fucking went to college. You are a pretentious wanker.

You're right. These people are idiots. You're not bitching about art, you're bitching about the morons sipping on their corporate latte's, plunking down all of mom and dad's cash so they can pretend to be talented and set apart and special and shit. Most truly talented people realize the futility of getting some kind of exorbitant degree to prove they have that talent. Go to school for something useful, or don't go at all.

Most art students are talent-free. "Those who cannot do, teach". Or take art classes.I had a highschool friend who admired my guitar playing, but couldn't even learn to play one f-ing song for himself in all the time I knew him. He is a good guy in other respects, but he is the most musically talentless human I've ever known. So naturally... he went off to San Fran State to become a music major. The John Tesh Syndrome. Not always true though, John Lennon went to art college.

I'm gunning for an Associate of Arts because I'm going to a crap college in the back end of nowhere and the only other transferable option was Associate of Science. I'm surrounded by scads of these smug wankers and every last one of them has their head shoved up their arse because they love to smell their own farts. I wouldn't give two shits if they weren't so bloody conceited.

Why do you hate them?  We need servants and cooks at our restaraunts!  They can join the many philosophy majors in the ranks at your local eateries!  I swear colleges are purposefully making people waste their money on shit professions that are not doing anything to help the work force.

It's funny that almost everyone who says they don't like art students has never set foot in an art college... and doesn't know any art students... So if you want to badmouth art students go and talk to some first.

Adolf Hitler had studied art and became a failed and frustrated artist.

History has since shown he did not handle failure well.

I think we know all about art and art students we need to.

I ain't talking to no strangers.

I'm an art therapy student..i too find art students generally a tad arrogant but to study art doesnt mean you're a no hoper. Im working with palliative care patients who seem to experience many benefits from expressing their grief and loss as well as immortalising their narratives in an artistic way. Art is not a hopeless area to endeavour, whether for career purposes or for personal enjoyment.. :)

Wow just STFU you bunch of closed-minded fucks!! Not all art students are pretentious assholes! You're just pissed off because they won't be friends with you. Art majors are not "useless," IT IS THE PERSON THEMSELVES THAT ARE USELESS, NOT THE JOB/MAJOR! You say Hitler was an art student and a "failure?" Well he was a damn good public speaker with quite a huge following, was he not?? I'm not saying I support him, but he DID accomplish something and he made an impact, even if it was negative. Oh and getting an art degree does not mean you're going to sit in your house and paint all fucking day. The only reason for artists to be useless is because we live in a fucked-up society that does not appreciate the arts enough and doesn't realize the impact it can have on our culture. There are plenty of jobs out there that require strong art skills. Web designer? Architect? Also, there's an artist behind just about everything you see. I bet you cant look anywhere around you without seeing at least one thing an artist of some kind is responsible for. The labels on your food? The tags on all the shit you buy? Websites (including this one)? The signs on all the stores you see? The buildings themselves? Your clothes? You're jewelry? Your furniture? Some kind of artist had to design your car, too!! Otherwise it'd just be a bare hunk of metal with wheels attached to it.You are an ungrateful cunt!! Without artists, you'd be sitting on the ground naked and freezing your ass off. Just think about that while you go back to your miserable life. I happen to be studying the arts AND business and I do shit like photography (both sides of the camera) and making independent films on the side and guess fucking what?? I GET MY BILLS PAID!!! No I don't love being in school but who does? Don't be jealous because you are a no-talent hack. You're probably ugly as fuck, too. Please consider suicide.

Are you mentally disabled? That would explain why you selected art as your major. Who designs cars??? ARTISTS!!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? No it can't possibly be people who know automotives at all, or physicists to reduce impact. It's the people who make things pretty right? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Oh mn please just go back to your portrait and stop talking. You might be able to decorate a canvas but clearly intelligent thpught or even common sense.

Ever hear of paragraphs? Maybe instead of art courses you should take some ENGLISH courses.

I am a biochemistry/microbiology student and I am telling you that is a solid FACT that science students hate art students. We make fun of you guys before our classes... I have many art student friends and I respect them and what they do. Never EVER assume that just because you are an arts student you outclass a molecular biologist or an engineer, people drop out of those classes to go to art classes due to the fact that any complete idiot can get an arts degree. Most science degrees require a large amount of talent and intelligence to complete.

Making a photo collage or doing an oil painting? Please, most people hate art students just because of the hipsters in the crowd and because you all complain about how hard your work is! You people do 1/10 the work of other faculties at 1/20 the difficulty.

Don't tell someone to take arts courses to see how hard it is, any moron can do an art degree. I would like to see you get through even first year sciences and still say your life is hard and that you are struggling. Art majors need to just shut up and respect that they are probably lazy and that some people are just going to be smarter than they are.

Love, A science student who ACTUALLY struggles

I hate a lot of art students too and would like to see art eliminated from education along with sports. Too many art students today are pseudo-intellectual pricks who have no idea what hard work is. They talk out of their ass and then become arrogant when you can't follow their convoluted bullshit arguments.

Truly creative people keep their mouth shut and work toward their goal. Their will always be the people who need to be an artist, and the world needs them. Rembrandt, Delacroix, Rubens, Da Vinci, Michelangelo...they know that is what they need to contribute to society. The problem is that these people are rare, and hipster bullshit fucks are a dime a dozen these days.

As for difficulty level...look at great works of art and tell me you can sit down and write a symphony like Mozart, a novel like Tolstoy or make a painting like Rembrandt. You can't. There are artists out there today who you would respect. They are just not the ones that are normally going around college campuses flaunting their artistic tendencies or dressing like fucking idiots.

The idiots, unfortunately, who are allowed to study art in school (and actually pass) are the people giving art a bad reputation. They're immature fucks who will have a serious wake up call in the imminent future. Great minds used to go into art, and they still do, it's just that the openness of modernism and postmodernism allows idiotic ones to go into it as well.

I studied biology before I became a painting major and continued to take history and science courses as electives throughout my undergrad education. I enjoy them. I had a 3.8 GPA. I scored close to a 1400 on my SAT and had high 90s throughout high school. I'm not a moron and I could have done anything. I didn't start painting until I was in college. Art can be a discipline and is a vital part of culture. Unfortunately, the education system has failed art and is even corrupting it. That is the sad truth.

i have a brainless hipster art degree and work along side people that have degrees in microbiology, psychology, english, and business, and make the same amount of money. art and art history programs are full of kids that are motivated, dedicated, smart, and talented. they work very hard. many of them do volunteer work in the local community and are very intelligent. many realize that intelligence is a performance, in the same way that peeing in a jar is.

but truly being a hipster has very little to do with the study of art. art degrees teach visual problem solving and critical thinking skills. you equating hipster to art students would be the same as me equating ignorant d bags to law students. fortunately, i know better than that.

    Here's a little economics lesson.

Art is a luxury, not a necessity. Thus demand is elastic (tends to change a lot with respect to the income). However, most people enjoy expressing themselves and their view point (even science students) through various mediums, so supply of art is plenty. This drives the price of art jobs down.

On the other hand, many areas of science are necessities (biology and chem for medicine, physics and math for higher efficiency to support the growing population). Thus, the demand for science student is always there but the demand for art students is only plentiful when the economy is good and people have extra money to throw around. Some people thrive on the unknown and find it exciting and rewarding, others like predictability and enjoy stability.

Bottom line: Art degrees tend to be plenty and the demand is turbulent so you are taking a gamble but may be spiritually fulfilling. Science is a steadier path with more structure and predictability but less opportunity to develop individually.

Personally, I'd first get the money, then explore my hobbies and interest. That is why I'm studying finance.
